Under Test: HED Ardennes Plus LT Wheelset

HED Ardennes Plus LT

Last spring, we reviewed Kirk Pacenti’s SL23mm rims, and the 24mm-wide rims quickly became some of our favorites. This season, we’ve gone even wider, logging miles on the 25mm-wide Ardennes Plus LT wheelset from HED Cycling. The tubeless-compatible LTs roll on the company’s 11-speed-compatible Sonic hubs, and feature bladed spokes (18 front, 24 rear).

Stay tuned…

  1. I built up a HED Ardennes Plus 32 hole with a White Industries Daisy hub and DT 14-15-14 spokes for the front of our Lynskey tandem and it has been very good. Initally used Grand Bois Cypres 32c tires but switched to Gatorskin 32c. Would love to have a 36 hole for the rear. The brake surface is good but not great. The best modern rim’s braking surface is on the Mavic A-719 where you don’t notice it.

  2. C2+ rims, King r45 hubs, Sapim Laser Front, CX-Ray rear, 32.

Everything from Challenge Eroica to Clement USH 35s and MSO (40c) and they all measure bigger than listed. The Eroicas, nominally 30c, measure a full 32c. I’ve used the other C2s and liked them, but these are great. Surprised by the previous comment, I thought the Plus was disc specific.

    Kona Rove (titanium).
